Can anyone help us try to figure out a fruit we tried recently? We ordered a plate of sorbets for dessert at a French/Basque restaurant recently, and the sorbets came served in frozen shells of the fruits they were made from. On the plate were a strawberry, a key lime, a peach, and this odd fruit. We never got an answer from the restaurant about what it was before we left.
The flavor reminded me of guava or passionfruit, but it didn't look like either of those. It was about 3-4 inches long, and instead of being round it was long and narrow. The fruit was bright yellow, but green near the stem. The skin was a little bit rough to the touch. After I finished the sorbet inside, I could see some small, dark seeds inside the shell.
Thanks for your help, hounds!
