The university near my house has this fruit tree that dropped fruit last week. The tree is about 30 feet high with leaves about 2" in diameter and they're yellow right now. The fruit resembles an emormous pear. It's 5 inches long and 3 inches across and weighs in at a healthy 9 ounces. The skin is pear like and yellow. The fruit does not have a traditional pear shape but is wide end to end. I thought of a quince but it's too big. It's not like any pear or apple I've ever seen....it may be from another world.....The flesh is the same legal pad yellow all the way through. It is closer to a large guava in appearance but the flesh is as dense as CONCRETE!
