Ideas for Quick March trip to NW Tuscany?

We succumbed on an impulse and bit on one of those incredibly cheap offseason deals for a week (well 5 days) in Tuscany, based in Montecatini Terme; our "real" trip to Italy will be a return to Lake Garda in the summer. We actually haven't toured by car in tuscany for more than 30 years, so I am seeing this as an opportunity to revisit Siena as well as Lucca and some of the towns and countryside in between, although train travel may turn out to be practical some days. Ive been reading the scant info here on Tuscany of course including the fairly substantial info base on Florence, Allende's contributions on the coastal area and several good posts on Lucca, Pistoia, etc.

Any recent favorable experiences in Siena or Florence (city proper not surrounding countryside), or in Lucca, Pistoia or Prato or the environs ? We normally eat out at lunchtime - I think its unlikely we will drive out for dinner unless we are late at our daytime destination or there is someplace really worthy nearby. So, I almost hesitate to ask, has anybody had decent meals in Montecatini, Terme or Alta? We are not looking for the supreme experience, just typical good quality regional cooking and wine and cordial service.
