An ideal picnic and restaurant in Healdsburg?

Steaklist | Jul 9, 200304:48 PM

My girlfriend and I will be staying at the Hotel Duchamp in Healdsburg this upcoming Sunday night. I'm going to use the occasion to pop the big question. But before I do, I have a couple of other questions I need to pop to this Board:

1) PICNIC: I need a spot *and* the fixins. Ideally, the locale would be something with grass that afforded privacy as well as a view. I'd also prefer that it be within a short driving distance of the hotel (near Healdsburg plaza). Any wineries or parks come to mind?

From this board, I've gathered that Oakville Grocery, Jimtown Market(sp?) and Provisions are all good spots for picnic supplies. A good one-stop shop would be appreciated. Any thoughts?

2) RESTAURANT: I'm considering Ravenous and Manzanita. The food at Ravenous sounds slightly more interesting, (for reference, one of our favorite restaurants in SF is Frascati in Russian Hill)however, I'm concerned about the atmosphere. A file photo from the Chron makes it seem too common (see below). A likewise photo of Manzanita seems much more appealing to our tastes (smart, contemporary design...dare I say "urban"). However, I have yet to read any posts regarding this restaurant. The atmosphere at Dry Creek Kitchen also seems appealing; however, I didn't much care for Aureole in LV and the reviews I've read make it appear inconsistent. Besides, I'm not looking for anything too formal. Just competent service and good food in a fun, sophisticated setting.

Any help you all can lend to either of these items would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
