Hot Sausages @ Little City, SF

Melanie Wong | May 14, 2002 05:17 AM

Last month another successful day of musseling at Pescadero Beach provided the inspiration for a first course of cozze e salsicce (mussels and sausage) for a dinner party. The wild musseling season is over for the year, but you can still buy the sausages at Little City in North Beach.

Three kinds of fresh, housemade Italian-style sausages are offered. The coarse-grind texture and blend of fat to lean are just right and the seasonings are balanced to a turn. The mild sausage is flavored with fennel. The Sicilian takes the same recipe and kicks it up a notch with some hot chilis. The Calabrese is hotter still and made with the fragrant and very spicy true Calabrian chili pepper.

Using half Sicilian and half Calabrese was just the right kick for my recipe. Many thanks to Cousin Tida for referring me here for these special hots.
