Hoke's BBQ--Denver

Chimayo Joe | Aug 22, 2005 03:35 AM

Finally found barbecue in Denver that meets my standards. The meats at Hoke's are smokier than at the other bbq joints I've tried in Denver. Ribs could be a little meatier, but they are tasty. Pulled pork was exemplary. The hot links aren't really hot, but are better than any links I've had since I've been to Central Texas. And wonder of all wonders, brisket done right. Nice spicy sauce (which I got on the side because a bad sauce can wreck even mediocre 'cue which Hoke's certainly wasn't.) Sauce went especially well with the links. Didn't try many of the sides, but the gumbo tasted pretty good although it was too rice laden, and the beans were also good.

Hope I make it to Denver on a Friday some time because Pappy's smoked prime rib is calling my name.
