I have been taking advantage of Toronto's Winterlicious and Summerlicious programs for years now. I have sampled some of the finest cuisine this great city has to offer at very reasonable prices. But last night i had one of the worst experiences at a restaurant ever.
I shoudn't say worst. I'm pretty sure if I dug deep enough into my mind I could conjure up a more tramatic recollection that my brain probably repressed. But never the less this one was definetly up there.
Every year I try to get some friends together to come experience Winterlicious with me and they really look forward to it. This like every other I chose the restaurant. I ran the list and found Toula at the Westin Harbor castle. The menu looked great ,tons of variety and a great looking restaurant high atop the hotel over lookibg the city. Great right!?...
We got there right on time and some of my friends were already there They had their drinks in hand and were being served . When myself, my wife and the rest of us joined the table the waiter left all of a sudden. He returned with one drink order in hand then walked away again without taking the rest of our drink orders..Then we had another waiter take our meal orders 30min later...the food took forever to come out...we waited over 40min between appitizers, entrées and especially desserts!
That was the service , now the food was another matter. I'm not saying it was bad, just very very disapointing. The warm veggie stack salad was bland and unexciting, the potatos accompaning my meal were full of "eyes", and my cheesecake tasted like an unsalted stick of butter ,whipped with lemon zest atop a chewy gritty bit of mueslix...
It wasn't all bad the half lamb rack I got (cooked way over then I wanted mind you) was actually pretty tasty...just alittle small on the portion size
All and all Toula was definetly a miss compared to some great places that make the top of my list. Places like Maro, Flow and Jump café. I guess the standard in my head was too high.
