Chinatown landmark jook joint Hing Lung, which closed nearly three years ago, is poised to reopen tomorrow after extensive renovation, a change in ownership and unexplained delays after it appeared to be ready a year ago.
When I wandered by tonight on my way to the #45 Bus, workmen were putting finishing touches to exterior signage. The credit card decals were on the glass door, and some congratulatory foliage already in place inside. I asked one of the workers when it would re-open, and he said "tomorrow."
The sign on the door says they are hiring in all categories, according to my wife. (It always amazes me how restaurants can open when they still need cashiers, cooks, dishwashers and servers.)
You'll soon find me in the line for the hot-from-the-oil youtiao (Chinese crullers).
