I've eaten at Korean restaurants before, but tonight at Hee Been in Alexandria was the first time at one of those places with the burner in the table.
Is this some kind of gimmick or what?
I mean, apart from the fact that the meat was too sweet for my taste, I see this no different from pan frying. It certainly isn't bbq. I thought maybe there would be a grill with flames licking up, or some smoke. I'm naive, it's true, but I saw no advantage in doing this yourself plus I don't see how the meat can get anything but hot and gray. Most of the food seemed designed for the Western palate, too.
So, did I miss something? Did I do it wrong? I know it's arrogant to complain about the service at a self-service restaurant, but how about the cooking at a cook-it-yourself? How does Hee Been compare with similar places?
