The heavy hand strikes again

Even if you suspect Dave Hammond is testing you to see what you'll cut, well, you don't have to volunteer to fail the test with quite so much alacrity.

He wrote a nice thing about corned beef. It contained a parenthetical reference to nervousness in the air re war which was hardly partisan. It also contained a bit of mock-Irish bluster which I took as parody of same. And I bet I'm at least as Irish as he is.

What it mainly contained, however, was a paean to corned beef. And the sum total of responses to it was someone saying how much they enjoyed it. I suppose it's possible that later today word of it would have spread through Ulster and we'd have had a flame war. But somehow I doubt it.

Again, on the whole moderation is a swell thing. But again, when it seems targeted at one person and exercised with a hair trigger and a heavy hand, it's only going to inhibit the atmosphere you're trying to protect.
