Hallelujah! Good Corned Beef in Milwaukee!!

TBOO | Sep 18, 200010:02 PM

Yes it's true, it's true.Jake's Deli on West North Avenue and 16th Street is a chowhound's paradise. Located in a rundown part of town, this landmark still draws the movers and shakers in Brew City. The day I was there, Sen. Herb Kohl came through. I asked him where he got good corned beef in D.C. and he said he didn't get it there.Anyway, the place sells corned beef, pastrami, and tongue. I had the corned beef and it was sublime. Not overstuffed ala Carnegie but enough meat to satisfy and cut thick.I was tempted to try the corned beef and swiss on the menu even though I'm a purist. It is Wisconsin, after all, so maybe next time I'll throw tradition to the wind. But I was in deli heaven and can't wait to go back.
