Guangdong Barbecue Tea House | Sunset District - San Francisco

Because I was in the neighborhood, last week I stopped by Guangdong Barbecue Tea House intending to buy a roast duck to go. It's one of the few places that makes Peipa Duck, as described in my post from 5 years ago, https://www.chowhound.com/post/roast-... .

Shocking that the usual line out onto the sidewalk was absent. And at a few minutes before noon, only two people were seated. Please support your local Chinese restaurants, my friends, they need you. I bought that gorgeous Peipa Duck (the Chinese scholars among us can debate whether that means “mandoline” or “loquat” with me voting for the former because of the spatchcocked form), $25. Unlike my last time, there was no pushback at all from the counterman when I asked him to fill my 6 ounce jar with duck juices. The other customer who came in said, “That’s such a smart idea!” https://www.chowhound.com/post/chinat... The aunties would be proud.

To leave more money here, I decided to sit-down for lunch. Beef brisket stew wonton noodles, $11, provided a steamy facial. And star anise and ginger root are antivirals, so that’s a bonus. Wiry noodles were bouncy and crisp, exactly on point. Good wontons filled with white pepper spiced forcemeat encased a whole juicy shrimp. The stock scattered with pungent scallions was very tasty. However the brisket's a bit underdone with the fascia and connective tissues still too hard and chewy even for the likes of me.

By noon hour there were only 14 other dine-in customers. Still no line. No worries about avoiding crowds here! I picked up a couple prepacked cold plates to go from the self-serve fridge. The white poached chicken feet were very good, and also liked the spicy duck gizzards.
