BY Grill Visit

I decided to go to BY Grill as I have not read anything on the place since they changed the menu and since I wanted to check out their ramen. Ordered cabbage and pork pan fried dumplings and a bowl of ramen with their pork broth and roasted pork.

The dumplings were good with a not too thick dough and delicate flavouring in the filling. But the ramen... The bowl may not be as pretty as let's say Santa, Himawari, or Ryowa but the contents were yummy. The broth was rich and complex, though not as white as other tonkotsu broths. This one was more caramel in colour and had no big fat globules. Despite the colour difference (maybe it's not pork bone as it just says pork)and slightly Chinese tones, I would take this broth over Himawari's gelatinous but kinda flat tonkotsu broth anyday. This broth had sparkle. Not quite Santa's on good days, but my experiences there have been rather hit or miss.

I asked for the noodles to be cooked hard. And they came out firm with good bite. Though maybe because they didn't cook it enough some strands were still stuck to eachother. The pork slices were melt in your mouth with just the right amount of lean vs. fat.

Excellent attentive service and attractive surroundings made to look a bit hipper than your average noodle joint. But the music... they need to get rid of that early 90's sex themed R&B. I don't want to hear Color Me Badd and Salt'n'Pepa when I'm, eating. There were only three tables filled in there during lunchtime. From my one experiece, I like the food and don't want the place to shut down due to lack of patronage. Oh yeah, the people who run it are from mainland China.
