Great Salvadoran and Mexican in West LA/Culver City

Tom Richardson | Nov 19, 200301:22 AM

Gloria's on Venice Blvd., just east of Motor, on the LA/Culver City border is pumping out some tasty Mexican and Salvadoran food. The bright orange sign makes it easy to find but it is unfortunately surrounded by grungy liquor and junk stores (but what do you expect in LA?). The friendly owner waits on tables and gives advice - directing me to the enchiladas suizas (outstanding) and my wife to a shredded beef chimichanga (my wife can't take anything remotely spicy, but this was fantastic nevertheless). I've had the pupusas and tamales, both specialties, and was equally impressed. The coup de grace is the incredibly low prices. I felt guilty that our dinner was under $20!

This stretch of Venice Blvd, between Sepulveda and Robertson is like a giant ethnic food court, but with good food instead of frightening mall fare. Anyone know of other gems in this area?
