After continually being disappointed in the Portuguese food, including the overpriced Pap Accorda and another that gets praised here in the Barrio Alta, we finally lucked out and came across two finds, so I'd like to share them as there was much mediocre food, overly salted fish and overcooked vegetables.
Solar Dos Bicos was a fabulous place to go. We had lunch outdoors on a Sunday, perfectly grilled sardines and a delicious chicken dish with rice that's identified as one of their specialties. It's at Rua Dos Bacalhoeiros, 8-A, not far from the Alfama.
The other delightful find was Ceruejaria Ribadouro near the center of town on Rua Do Salitre, N 2, where fish is featured. We had amazing grilled prawns served with butter and a dish with shrink and rice that tasted more like Chinese food and was terrific. They charge by the weight of the fish and prices can run up but we watched the portions and had other things as well.
