Grano is DEAD!

ARGH!! After waiting for the longest time for Grano to reopen after renovations, just so I could try it for the first time, I took my assistant and her husband to the reopened place last Friday. It's now called "Mamma Maria's" but I was assured that there was the same chef, menu, manager, staff, etc. Well, pardon my French, but BULLSH*T!!!

There were only 2 main courses - grilled chicken and tuna. There were 5 starters - 2 bruchettas, 2 standard salads (tricolore anyone?), and 1 grilled scallops (I had it and it was pretty tasteless). There were 3-4 pastas (spaghetti with tomato sauce, penne with cheese, ravioli with tomato and cheese, and one other equally inspired). Three desserts - tiramisu (surprise!!!), chocolate tart, and poached pears in red wine. Nothing was particularly tasty and certainly there was no magic in the kitchen.

The winelist was a complete disappointment. About 5 each red and white. No vintages or producers listed. When I complained, they managed to find an unlisted Rosso di Montalcino somewhere. It was pretty good but that's the most I can say for it.

Service was helpful but a little harried.

The biggest thrill of the evening was Kenny Logan and Gaby Horath dining at the next table - oh, whee!!

DON'T go here unless there are some MAJOR changes made. What a waste on an evening I was really excited about.
