Ginger Iced Tea

Made a pitcher of sun tea yesterday and was tierd of the regular tea taste so I boiled about a cup of water and added a handful of crystalized ginger pieces and a few tablespoons full of sugar and steeped. Strained it and added it to the tea and it was great.

Question is - How do I do this with fresh ginger? Using the crystalized would get $$$.
