I have to admit I'm surprised to be writing this. I didn't think anybody's shawarma could touch the King's. However, George's, just on the other side of the tracks from Salaam and Shawarma King is excellent. I think the King does a little bit more in making a great overall sandwich but George's meat is outstanding. So juicy and full of flavor--a flavor pretty similar to the King's shawarma. Don't get me wrong, his meat is excellent, but George's may have him beat when it comes to the tastiness of the shawarma meat itself. George loses a few points as there was no sauce to go on the sandwich (I didn't exactly ask for it but it wasn't offered and I like to see what the standard is before asking for any changes). You can also get the shawarma on French bread. Is this normal? I've not seen this before. I got mine wrapped in a pita with cucumbers, lettuce and tomato--all OK fresh/taste-wise.
Of course, the King does a chicken shawarma and George's doesn't and I'd be really impressed with a better chicken shawarma than the one at Shawarma King. Plus, when you purchase a shawarma from the King you are getting something caringly put together--a real work of art. George's is more a bunch of stuff put into a pita that tastes great but without the real synergy of tastes.
Incidentally, it looks like Shawarma King was the victim of some vandalism as one of the front windows was knocked out Friday night or Saturday (I was there Friday around 7 and all was well).
