I just had a discussion with someone on the California boards about frozen custard, a Wisconisin/Midwest specialty. I only had it once during my university tenure in Missouri, and it tasted like regular soft serve ice cream. I always assumed that this was just the Midwestern name for soft serve. Now I'm told that it is a different creature entirely.
So here are my questions, in a nutshell:
1) Does anyone know what the differences are between frozen custard and soft serve?
2) Is it possible to use a home ice cream maker to make frozen custard? If so, does anyone have a recipe?
