Frisee Salad at Caffe Umbra

Robert | Mar 28, 2005 04:15 PM

A while back I ate at Caffe Umbra and overall had a nice experience. The manager Chris found space for us even though the room was full and we were delighted by the great service (I think her name was Debra). However, I ordered one of my all time favorite appetizers the frisee about a disappointment. My salad arrived nicely dressed with a slightly overcooked egg ontop (but that's acceptable it was still a touch runny) and to my complete horror two chewy slices of pre-cooked bacon laying across my beautiful frisee. I was unsure to be honest how to approach my salad. If I tried to cut it I end up chasing the bacon around the bowl making it a chore to eat. Besides the effect is lost when the bacon is not incorporated into the frisee salad itself. Shame on you Laura Brennan, everyone knows frisee salad is served with bacon lardons and a lardon is a lardon not a slice of chewy bacon.
Not what I have come to know of Miss Brennans food. I certainly hope this oversight is quickly fixed or removed from the menu.
