Hi all. I know it's kind of insulting to ask a group with such generally elevated tastes this question, but here goes. I'm looking for your favorite "classic" fried rice. To be more specific:
Location: anywhere in Manhattan. downtown would be nice, the village even better, but I'm willing to travel.
Requirements: Take-out must be an option, delivery is not mandatory.
Characteristics I'm looking for:
- cheap (preferably less than $10)
- not excessively greasy/oily (I know this is subjective, but however you want to interpret it is fine)
- not overloaded with soy sauce to the point where it's disgustingly salty (again, subjective, but I thought you all would prefer details).
Summary: Basically, I want it to be the "classic" delivery style fried rice with rice, egg green onions, peas, carrots, etc., and not much else. I usually get chicken, for what it's worth. I know the ingredients vary from one cuisine (if you can call it that) to the next. I'm not a huge fan of thai-style fried rice but I could deal if that was your best suggestion.
Finally, I know you can get take-out fried rice from every third restaurant in the city, but I'm looking for the best you've had, the place you consistently choose, etc.
Also, I searched for this thread but didn't see anything specifically addressing this question, but if I missed it I'm sorry!
