Fresh Updates on Retro Cocktail Party Favorites?

This month our supper club meeting is at my house on Oscar night, and I chose the theme of "Nouveau-Retro Cocktail Party" - thinking it would be easier to eat this type of food in front of the tv! The idea is to update those old stand-bys with fresh produce and artisan ingredients. Everyone brings something, and the host usually makes the entree, but since it's cocktail party I am going to do a few things. So far I'm thinking truffled popcorn, dates stuffed with parmesan and wrapped with prosicutto (sort of an updated "Angels on Horseback") and some mini iceberg lettuce wedges with bleu cheese dressing and pickled onions. I might also make Suzanne Goin's "70's Mom's Chocolate Bundt Cake" for dessert, even though it's not very "cocktail-esque." (I was sort of inspired by the Lucques cookbook when I came up with the theme.)

Other things to update - French Onion Dip, Pigs in Blankets, Cheese Fondue, Swedish Meatballs - the list goes on...

Anybody have any ideas for updating these or other old favorites? Let 'em rip!
