Finally hit Speeds and the Linwood

Joanie | Sep 8, 2005 02:25 PM

We made our way around the no man's land of Newmarket Sq. and found Speed's fairly easily, thanks to looking up old posts with very good directions. Only 4 or 5 people in front of us in line at about 12:20 or so. Speed was sitting outside and his helper (does he have a name) was doing the cooking at that point. What a sweet guy. He heard me asking questions as to what was available for toppings and gave me the blow by blow, cut it in half and wrapped part up when I saw how giant that thing was, and suggested I get the works. It really is an amazing dog. $6 seems a bit steep but since it's a one time experience for me, being so out of the way and having the limited hours, I did as suggested and am very glad I went.

Decided yesterday was too nice to eat inside and got food at the Linwood for the first time in ages (last time I was there was they still had bands). Two people got the gigantic fried fish sandwich w/ horseradish tartar sauce (which I took from them, silly people didn't like it), that's definitely enough to split for 2 people. I got a chopped brisket sandwich w/ fries and cole slaw and should have saved half for later but ate the whole thing. Both were $7.99 I think. Very quiet at lunch time but a nice break from my usual 30 min nowhere lunches (a whole week of them as a matter of fact, woo hoo).
