Do you ever feel you are being overcharged when you get takeout? [moved from General Chowhounding Topics]

This has happened to me time and time again, most recently - just now. I frequently order out, chinese, thai, greek primarily, with a menu in hand, only to find out when I pick up my order that the price is just a dollar or two (or three) more than I suspected it would be. Now I don't know if it's because the menus are outdated and the prices have gone up, or whether they are just trying to pull a fast one on me because I'm just getting told a charge rather than being presented with an itemized receipt as I would be when dining in.

Latest example - I ordered pad thai with shrimp for lunch and just picked up. Didn't have a menu this time. When I got my food, they said - $8.70. I wasn't presented with any type of receipt. The food wasn't quite ready so I asked to look at a menu (reason - to peruse the other options at this place that doesn't print a to go menu). What I noticed was $6 for pad thai, add $1 for shrimp. Tax on $7 is not $1.70. Anywhere.

So what's going on? I don't say anything because I don't like to cause a ruckus or view myself as a penny pincher. But this happens alot. Am I the only one?
