I finally dropped my Master's Thesis off for binding this week. I was more than a bit annoyed that Hofstra University in Hempstead picked a company in Medford (40 miles away and in someone's basement no less) as the sanctioned binder. As a left the printer for the trek back to Hofstra I remembered that Fax Chix, which Jim Leff had raved about in the What Jim Had For Dinner Section (see link and scroll down to July 28, also mentioned in one of the Chow Alerts which reminded me of it) was nearby.
The chicken is amazing. Answer yes when the ask you if you want it spicy (or tell them if they don't ask). I ordered half a chicken with fries and ate it at the bar. The bartender was kind enough to bring me some warmed tortillas. I enjoyed a nice Mexican Coca-Cola (made w/ real sugar not corn syrup) with my meal and a flan for dessert.
The fries and flan were both very good, but the chicken is what makes this place worth the trip. I'm very fussy about eating only the meat of the chicken. I'll gladly eat the skin, but I try to avoid the tendons, and other stuff holding it to the bones. Here I sucked the bones dry. I don't normally finish half a chicken in one sitting because I get bored with it, but I would have eaten another half if it was on my plate.
If you're at all within driving distance of this place (and it's well worth driving 40 or more miles for), go get some chicken.
