Fenton's in Oakland and Vacaville marked today commemorating its 121st birthday with $1.21 black and tans. I heard that the wait in Oakland is over an hour.
Me, I kicked off the month with dinner at San Francisco's The Progress ending with a trio of desserts shared with my dining companions. We had consensus that the best of the three was the Malted stracciatella ice cream topped with walnut sandies and a tart-sweet raspberry compote. Very rich and dense ice cream shot through with fine shards of dark chocolate, more coarsely chopped black walnuts than cookie bits, and all complimented very well by the tartness of the berries.
