Curious to hear what Chowhounders say are their favorite brands of canned/jarred anchovies. I don't use anchovies that often, and when I do it's usually in dishes like pasta puttanesca where I don't need the highest possible quality, so I've never seen the need to purchase salt packed, or the most expensive brand of jarred ones. That said, I recently read the Serious Eats taste test and it got me thinking about which ones I should be buying, and I'm not that excited about the idea of trying each one sold in my local gourmet store. The Serious Eats taste test winners aren't available at the few places I've looked (including my local Whole Foods), and in addition, those places sell a few other options that weren't included in this taste test (i.e. Ortiz in a can and not a jar). I don't have a C.I. subscription so was unable to read their reviews.
So, what do you think is the best [somewhat affordable] oil-packed anchovy brand you have tried? And what brand do you use regularly for cooking?
