So what was the most unusual chow you got to try during family holiday gatherings?
On arrival at a relative's house I was presented with a multilayered confection in a glass bowl, topped with gingerbread cookies and whipped cream. To my inquiring raised eyebrows the chef responded proudly "trifle!"
I asked, "What's the green on the bottom?"
"Lime jello. I soaked the ladyfingers in it."
But the turkey (served as a main course, not part of the dessert) was delicious.
