We left Pittsburgh, heading for Philly, early this afternoon and. stopped for gas in Somerset, about an hour outside of Pittsburgh, where we spotted the Summit Diner.
We all had burgers, and they were absolutely outstanding. Mine was a mushroom and Swiss, with grilled onions. I can't remember when I've had a better burger - anywhere. Priced below $6, they were 1/2 pounders of delightful goodness. They were juicy and cooked to perfection (our choice, medium rare). The rolls were also excellent (not doughy or dry, but thin, fresh, chewy bakery rolls).
Most notable was the flavor of the meat. So often burgers don't have any good, meat flavor. Theirs definitely do.
I don't know about the rest of the food on the menu, but if this diner were located much closer to Philly, I wouldn't ever go anywhere else for a burger (including my own home). Theirs can't be beat.
The atmosphere was authentic diner. The three local men gathered at the table across from us were chatting about hunting (in "authentic" detail!!) and fishing, and our waitress was friendly and casual.
