Ate at EVOO last night after deciding we really needed to go out for good food and then realizing that our usual haunt, Gargoyle's, would be closed as it was Monday.

We haven't been to EVOO in years due to horrendous service (really, really bad) last time we went.

I started with a beet, blue cheese, apple and nut salad. I expected it to be a regular salad style but it turned out to be the beets and apples diced and then mixed with the cheese and nuts and molded into a column. Hmm. OK. It tasted good but it was a bit frustrating not to be able to identify the individual items and tailor each bite depending on whether I wanted "more or less" of something. Hubby started with a turnip soup which was thick and delicious.

I had halibut which was great. It came with a small amount of white beans, bacon and roasted garlic. Hubby had venison with diced root vegetables. He was disappointed saying that the meat was bland.

We skipped dessert, each had 2 drinks, bill came to $104 pre-tip.

As for the service -- our waitress was friendly but the lag time between courses was way too long. By the time we got our entrees we didn't care anymore :-) We got there at 7pm and the room was only 25% full. When we left a few hours later, room was 80% full with no wait.
