First time today at the Polish and European Delikateski, on Monument Boulevard in Concord. Over 60 kinds of sausages, smoked meats, pickled meats. Shelf after shelf of peppers, pickles, preserves, and condiments. A reefer full of German-and-east beers. Cookies and candy in profusion, sure to evoke Mittel-Europa childhood nostalgia. Dried fish and smoked fish. CDs, Polish hip-hop and Bohemian oompah bands. A shelf of breads, mostly pumpernickel and rye. No sandwiches made, take your selections home and make your own. Along with the Czech place linked below, this place is another star (two so far) in Concord's Slavic galaxy (small galaxy, right).
The Delikateski sits right by a nice Filipino lunchroom, and surrounded by Mexican places of various classes. Monument Blvd is starting to develop a critical mass of ethnic spots, like those great couple of blocks of Newark Blvd where a dozen cuisines jostle each other.
