Hey Hounds, heading to Convivio and would love to know what everyone recommends as the best main course. I will be doing the 4 course tasting and have pretty much selected my appetizer (quail), pasta (malloreddus), and dessert (affogatto). I also plan on ordering a side of the pecorino potatoes which I have heard insane raves of it is the "greatest thing to happen to the potato since the french fry".
The dilemma is what to order for the main. Many people say it is best to actually order an extra pasta in lieu of a main, however I for one cannot eat too much pasta even though I am full Italian and love it. I need some kind of protein to break up the carb overload. I am thinking right now that I am going with either the anatra (duck), pork chop, or maybe the tuna. I had been planning on the lobster but they recently took it off the menu. Lamb chops would usually tempt me as I love them but I am not a fan of the accompaniments of beans and escarole. Also I know they have a different special of the day every night so that may also throw a wrinkle into my thinking. I know what many are thinking,, steakrules not going for the strip steak? Well YES. After many disappointing experiences with steak at non-steakhouses, I refuse to order them unless at a steakhouse. And plus I have had my share of steakhouse dinners lately and want something different for a change. I know shockingggg!!!!!
Any suggestions on the best? Do they do better at fish or meat? I am probably saving fish for when I head to Marea and the Veal Chop when going to Alto. Therefore, to try something different I am most likely leaning towards the duck but please feel free to sway me!
