My electric fryer died: now I use the basket in the oven

travelerjjm | Apr 29, 201603:21 PM

I have had an electric deep fryer for years. The latest died the other day. I needed to make some fries, but I don't like the usual baked-on-a-pan oven ones. After reading that air fryers are mostly just funky convection ovens, I lightly coated the fries with oil, put them in the fry basket, and put them in a preheated 450degree convection oven. I did put a sheet pan on a lower rack to catch drips. 10 minutes later I had great fries. I don't think they took much longer overall than heating and cooking with the fryer.
