Last time I was by EC on a weekday they were inexplicably closed. Dropped by yesterday and to my great pleasure they were open and full of tamales! Bought three of the tamals wrapped in banana leaf (Hoja de Platano) - one with chicken and mole, one with pork in a red sauce and one pork in what I think was a red mole. Mmmm, fantastic! Nice, creamy masa and lovely, rich filling.

They also have Huaraches, Mulitas and Gorditas and Mexican-style husked tamales on a daily basis although I haven't yet gotten past the Hoja de Platano tamales for a taste...

Weekends they serve Birria de Chivo and Menudo. Again, I haven't been by to taste either, but, I don't think that'll last long. I anticipate that the birria will be exceptional based on their tamales alone.

She also has a tamale cart down on Imperial in front of the old Tacos el Pais, just catty corner to the police station.

I would suggest a visit by any of the CH crowd for the first rate tamales.
