So I finally tried the Echigo $11 lunch special to see what everyone was talking about. 5 pieces of sushi and a crab roll. I can't believe you guys get full on this! Each piece comes out one piece at a time. One piece at a time. I guess they really believed the old dietician's advice that the longer you take to eat something the less you need to to get full. Apparently this is not true in my case, because I was still starving.
I'm sorry guys, but I thought the fish was not particularly great quality, though I'm not sure because it was sliced so thin as to be practically translucent. Echigo's crab roll was the best thing I got in the lunch special. Anyway, I was still so hungy, I got a second lunch at Sushi Tenn.
Speaking of crab roll, the best crab roll I've had so far is at Wasabi in Tustin: crisp nori surrounding perfect proportions of rice and crab.
Personally, I like Sushi Gen's $16 deluxe sushi combo (no salad). It's $5 more, but I think the fish quality is good and rice is decent and with some tea, I get full.
Before I get flamed for talking about cheap sushi, I too believe that you have to put up some decent money to have *good* sushi. But I was mighty curious because of all the cheap sushi recs here. Actually, I like Sushi Gen and I think the deluxe combo sushi plate for $16 is a good deal.
