Too Early/Too Late

A holiday family outing in December, which will include a college student just home for school break, has me stymied. The Davies Hall Sunday concert at 7:00 pm leaves us searching for a leisurely pre-dining experience at 4:00pm. Sigh...too late for brunch, too early for dinner, but this option does exist at Trader Vic's (I can probably read your minds on that one) and The Waterfront (out of Civic Center area). Also, there's the reliable Absinthe and Indigo (to which I've never been) that both open at 5:00, instead of the usual 5:30. A Sunday concert with an early start time is proving to be a culinary challenge!

Heck, I'm seriously thinking Trader Vic's in order to have the extra time at the dinner table to catch up on my kids' lives. But having said that, we all enjoy great food and I don't want our special family outing to be ruined by mediocre food usually served to unsuspecting tourists.

Am I crazy? Knowing the tradeoffs, where should we go? Any other ideas?
