Was there last night with my husband's beer group. Haven't been in years and years and fondly remember many time with lots of friends being there the night before Thanksgiving- raucous and fun and singing and drinking, but not eating.
The food was only OK, and over-priced. Highlight, however were the potato pancakes, best I've ever had -- thin and flat and extremely crispy with delicious brown edges.
Service is warm and friendly. But sauerbraten was dry, sweet and sour red cabbage was, I'm pretty sure, not made there, nor was the sauerkraut. Everything I tasted was just a little bland, which is totally not German food.
However, despite my problems with it, was kind of glad to support an institution like this, around and unchanged since the 1930's and now in a kind of sketchy neighborhood.
Beer was great. Advice --- go for the beer, eat before or after, or stick to the potato pancakes.
