I come from the land of blue laws--having lived in Boston for the six years and seen a few too many folks get their wine poured on the grass by police officers, I've learned to only consume alcohol in public with the sort of covert attitude more appropriate for drug dealing. Basil lemonade...with vodka. Mint iced tea...with rum. Don't tell the Boston police.
I'm wondering, for my upcoming trip to Paris, what's the attitude towards public consumption of wine? I'm not pondering strolling down the Champs Elysees with an open container. I'm more wondering: if we have a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc with our picnic, is there a chance it'll get taken away from us? Is this frowned upon, or embraced?
