Downhill Alert: Pizza Loft, Davie

With a heavy heart I post these words: Pizza Loft in Davie has jumped the shark. Last weekend we stopped in for lunch, mouths watering for those garlic rolls and some of their pasta or pizza. We live out of the area and haven't been there in at least 2 years. It was once a favorite, and we had frequented it both in Davie and in it's old Miami location for years.

To make a long, sad story short it took the Pizza Loft Team 45 minutes and three tries to bring a bowl of pasta with red sauce. The red sauce tasted like plain canned tomato sauce, maybe a little oregano. My dining companion was brought the wrong order as well, but surrendered and ate it. A mysterious sandwich we didn't order at all appeared and was sent back. The rolls were only vaguely garlicky. The salad consisted of a thickish white slab of tomato perched on a wilted bed of iceberg with onions tasting as though they'd been cut the evening before.

When our leftovers were brought, they were unceremoniously dropped onto the center of the table in such a way that the sauce immediately leaked out into the bag. When I asked to speak to the manager, an Ernest Hemmingwayesque type appeared and was not even remotely interested in our experience and had no solutions to offer, not even an apology.

Prevously, the service and food were always well above average here. Owner Jeff Cohen was not in evidence that day - I can't imagine he's lowered his standards this much! We can't go back there again...
