I just ran across a book coming out next month, "Donuts: An American Passion" by John T. Edge, the same guy who did the book on fried chicken. Fun little book covering the history of doughnuts and visiting doughnut places across the country, plus recipes. I like the idea that when there was a shop in Times Square in the 1920s with a doughnut-making machine, crowds used to gather to watch.
