Dottie's True Blue Cafe - Tenderloin Gem

Dottie's true Blue Cafe (Jones & Geary) has a limited menu and limited seating, but what they do, they do really well. They have an excellent baker working there who is turning out beautiful sweet buns, scones, sweet breads, coffee cakes and CINNAMON ROLLS (with whole pecans and lots of them). Really special. Mostly it's breakfasts and burgers. With a Latino twist. Burgers are organic angus beef. The home fries are fantastic - crusty to the max, yet tender and buttery - best in my memory. They do whole wheat/spice hot cakes. I had a breakfast with soft perfect scrambled eggs (3?), home fries, 2 black bean cakes, corn bread (raspberry preserves - personal fave), excellent fresh chunky home made salsa, sour cream - a lot of food, half of it came home - $7.95. Everything was perfect. When I saw the open faced burger that arrived for my companion, I couldn't supress a, "What a beautiful burger!" The waitress glowed in a way that let me know the staff really care and really like working there. I tasted that burger, and it WAS a beautiful (big juicy) burger. Great atmosphere, Billie Holiday et al backround music, comfortable place to sit, if you're by the wall. I just wish I had another reason to visit that neighborhood. What am I saying? Dottie's True Blue Cafe is definitely worth a special trip (if you're driving that is).
