DOTM June, 2015 - Crawfish Etouffe

This should have been BruceSW starting this thread as it was his idea to steal, (uhmm, I mean "adopt"), the idea from the San Fran board.

However, I couldn't wait. I want to recommend the special of the day at Pappy's Cafe on the Katy Freeway.

On Wednesdays, (today!), it's blackened catfish with crawfish etouffe on top.

I mentioned it on one of the "I LOVE Living in Houston" threads that everyone either loved or hated so much.

I know some people have a problem with catfish, but I've been eating it my whole life, so it's not a big deal to me. Anyway this dish is done perfectly and the etouffe is absolutely some of the best I've ever had. It's a simple dish, but easy to mess up if you try to get complicated. This version is so rich and decadent that I've almost given up eating it. Even on Wednesday, I usually just get the blackened catfish without the etouffe, because "it's just too good to be good for me".

But the next time, (maybe today), I'm so in.

It's cheap too. I'm not positive, but it's served over dirty rice with a choice of two sides, (mine are usually a salad and something green), and I think it's either $10 or $11.

By the way, here's a two-fer: Their soup of the day is occasionally crawfish bisque. Also excellent.
