Dopo, Oakland

Having just come back from Chez Panisse (upstairs) and been to Dopo just a few days ago, I have no problem saying they're on the same level. I enjoyed my meal at CP more overall (the pork leg with beans, peppers and pine nuts was especially amazing), but the food at Dopo was easily of the same caliber. The pigeon ravioli with black truffles, the Campanian paté and the fall minestra soup in particular were all fantastic. I have no idea why the Chowbook calls Dopo a "neighborhood Italian" joint, because it's not remotely the red-and-white tablecloth type place that that implies, but they make an absolutely delicious meal, and the service was quite good too. In fact, the soup was better than the soup I tried at CP tonight, although admittedly a completely different kind.
