Having eaten my way across New York City, I needed a respite from restaurant dining after a couple of dozen restaurant meals in over a week. However after a week of inactivity I was finally ready to look for San Gabriel Valley openings. I decided to check out the most recently vacated location of MaMa's Kitchen on New Avenue, just south of Valley, where King's Cup has been preparing to open for quite a while. Driving by this afternoon, the signs were up and there were 3 ducks hanging in the window, so I rolled in. I didn't realize I was the first one in the place until (1) I was told they had no menus and (2) after ordering and trying to pay for my food, neither the manager nor the owner/chef could figure out how to operate the cash register. Without a menu it's hard to say what kind of restaurant this is. They have jia jiang mein and beef noodle soup. I ordered the jia jiang mein. It was undercooked and a little bland. Hopefully some of you other hounds will give them a few days and then try it out.
