We had dinner at Don Pedro's Taqueria last night and it was great! They started serving at 5. We got there at about 10 after 5 and the line was out the door (not difficult, the place you order is right inside the door) and up the block. It took around ten or fifteen minutes before we got to place our order. The order only took about five minutes to be ready.
We both got large plates (carne asada and carnitas) with rice, refried beans, and soft corn tortillas and shared. The plates cost $9.50 each. We got a bottle of soda each for $1.85 (they had Mexican Coke, which my husband prefers). The portions were generous. You get four tortillas with the meal, and there is plenty of meat for four well-filled tacos. The white rice comes with flecks of cilantro, which was odd to me, but not overwhelming. They also offer brown rice, but neither of us particularly care for it. They also offer pinto or black beans.
I really WANTED them to be offering their al pastor meat with the large plate, but they don't. Next we go, we'll be getting some al pastor tacos (slabs of pork marinated in chiles and spices then layered on a spit and roasted on a rotisserie, they also offer roasted pineapple with it). We got ours to go and ate in the car out front.
They have an array of salsas that you serve up for yourself and can take with you. The avocado salsa (that's what they called it) was wonderful, the red "medium" salsa was a bit hot for me, but had a great flavor.
My husband said if we lived closer, we'd eat here a LOT. :)
