checked out the Dog House last night (on Ludlow just below Houston. giant hot dog out front, ya can't miss it)... here's the scoop...
- wide variety of hot dogs - an all-beef that's nicely grilled and very tasty - similar in taste and size to Papaya/Grays; a larger pork and beef dog (didn't try); turkey dogs - very good, nice texture and smoky flavor; a veggie hot dog (didn't try); and a burger dog - hamburger meat shaped as hotdog and fried (didn't try). they also offer a fresh made corn dog, you can pick any dog, including veggie. we tried a turkey corn dog, it was tasty, hot and fresh but the batter was a bit thin.
- big menu of toppings to add, just about everything you could want. they offer some intersting "specialty" dogs with mixes of toppings. the ones we tried were nicely heaped on and fresh (I hate processed chopped onions some hot dog places use). I really liked the chili dog I had, thinking about getting another one on my way home... chili's a bit bland - but fresh and homemade and has a good flavor - layered on grilled beef dog on a very soft roll with cheese and fresh onion. almost has a cheese-steakie taste.
- standard fries, sides and sodas. they have the curly seasoned fries - cooked fresh to order, which go great with the dogs. cole slaw was not fresh, the white bucket variety.
- they deliver (sorry forgot to grab the phone #) and are open late. really bad stark atmosphere. but perfect for a quick bite before a down and dirty night in the LES - like a show at Arlene's or Luna, or a night of drinkin at Pianos or Motorcity! oh, and prices are great/cheap - 2 people, got a bunch of stuff - $11.
