Yep, another registry question....for our wedding, we are registering for "real" dishes for the first time, which is very exciting after living with hand-me-down dishes for many years. However, because we've always had mismatched sets, we've just learned to adapt various dishes to various functions, and I don't have a very good sense of what the "ideal" dish for various uses looks like (knowing, of course, that people have personal preferences on this type of thing, too).
I've measured various plates and bowls in our kitchen now and have some understanding of that, but since the dishes we're getting are sold a la carte, we have the opportunity to request fewer or none of sizes or shapes that might be less useful. We know we absolutely want dinner plates and cereal bowls, but the verdict is out on everything else. If you have similarly sized dishes, which do you use regularly, and for what? Any favorites for salads or desserts or soups? Do you have pieces that came with your set that you could honestly do without, or that seem to large or small?
Here are our options:
- Dinner plate (10.75")
- Salad plate (8.25")
- Bread-and-butter plate (6.25")
- Pasta bowl (1 quart with rim)
- Cereal bowl (1 pint, no rim)
- Dessert bowl (8 ounces, no rim)
Would love to hear others' experiences or recommendations to help us figure out what might be the ideal combination of these---thanks!
