Had dinner with two friends last night at Scutra, which has been one of my favorites for the last couple of years. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was particularly wonderful either. We ordered the special appetizer - fried oysters over a little corn salad, topped with some slivers of carrot flavored faintly with wasabi. Sounded great and looked lovely when it came to the table. Unfortunately, the oysters had been coated with some sort of coconut batter that pretty much overwhelmed all the other flavors. Entrees included halibut with ratatouille, sea scallops over asparagus couscous, and monkfish over polenta. All the fish was nicely cooked, and the ratatouille had an interesting smokiness; but the couscous was pretty bland and barely lukewarm; and the sauce with the monkfish (we weren't sure what it was) was overly acidic. We split lemon tart for dessert - the lemon filling was lovely, but alas, the crust was soggy. Hope this was just an off night. . .
