Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives in the B.A.

Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives is my favorite show on the FoodNetwork. The plates they serve at those modest, unpretentious places look fantastic. Here in the B.A. we seem to have more than our quota of fancy, expensive, "precious"restaurants (Chez Panisse, French Laundry, Gary Danko) that serve foam and frou-frou.

Great DDDs shouuld have great food and not be pretentious. Falafel Drive-In is a great example. Fog City Diner and Max's are not, failing either the great food or the pretentiousness standard. Or both.

What are your favorite diners, drive-ins, and dives in the B.A.? What's your favorite thing that they serve?
