Today was my first visit to Desiree since I moved back and I found some nice changes.
The restaurant area has expanded. It now can seat 32 instead of 15. There are now six tables as well as the long booth with tables at the back wall. Slightly larger, yet it maintains it's cozy charm.
The traffic pattern is better. All the tables are to the right of the counter.
To the left of the counter is Desiree - Ready to Go. A fridge with ready made menu items so you don't have to wait for them to be put together.
The food is still impeccable.
I had the perfect BLT ... bacon, heirloom tomato slices at their tastiest, leaves of butter lettuce on their wonderful house made bread.
It was accompanied by edame and pickled carrots. I guess pickled veggies are the current rage as I've had them in quite a few restaurants lately. Desiree's carrots were jewel like and delicious.
For dessert there was a wonderful white peach coffee cake with the organic peaches blushing pink.
You can also schedule special events now in the Palm Room at the Presidio (see picture and link below). There is also the conference room and board room which seem like nice places to schedule off site meetings.
AND .... Desiree Delivers. You can call in and have your lunch delivered. Don't know how far they will deliver or the minimum delivery though.
The menu for this week
Puree of tomato and fennel soup
Simple greens with toasted shallot
Seafood salad with lettuce cucumber sauce
Antipasti of zucchini with parmesian garlic bread
Sliced tomato & cottage cheese salad with basil
The box lunch special is
Albacore tuna and black olive tapenade sandwich
& pasta salad with corn, pine nuts and parsley
& fresh baked cookies (orange poppyseed the day I went)
Other sandwiches are;
White Cheddar melt with potatoes and Swiss chard
Turkey salad sandwich with peaches and almonds (I had this with the box lunch I took home. You can make any sandwich into a box lunch. It was delicious, but my favorite was that BLT.)
There are links to reviews of the restaurant, including a chowhound link.
If you go, here's the directions again.
As you enter the Presidio from the Marina, make a left at the first stop sign (Halleck, just before the Crissy Field Center). Go to the end. A little to the right of the stop sign, almost a continuation of Halleck, is Mesa. Follow this to the last building on the right (39). It is in that building.
